Grand Knight's Message
Brother Knights, the nip of fall is in the air. September is half over and October is on the way. We have just completed the general meeting for September. The attendance was wonderful. We were all introduced to our field agent Wes Oglesbe. If you have insurance questions he is the man to contact. We presented Dianne Peters from ARC with the check from the Tootsie Roll drive. She gave us a five-minute over view of what their organization does. The ladies had their meeting with good attendance also. The fall fishing trip was a success. Congratulations to Phil Yenor who won the contest this year. We had some slots available, so consider joining us next year.
One of our next big events is the Marathon for Non-Public Education. It will be held on Saturday October 4th. Contact Dick Dols if you would like to help. With fall here, this means three things; first school is back in session, the leaves will soon be turning, and our second Sunday brunches will be starting up again. The first brunch is October 12th at the hospitality center.
Membership is still a big deal being pushed from the state. We need more members. Individually remember to ask those people whom you see everyday. Many of them may just be wondering how to join our great organization. In addition, recently many people got to see the Knights as they participated at Fr. George's memorial service. We can talk about our Catholic presence and service to many more people who may have become familiar with us for the first time that night. We are moving forward with the membership blitz. I will be talking to the pastoral council on holding this blitz. We will be holding this on either October 26th or November 16th. To help us with this endeavor and all recruiting, the state is holding a recruitment-training meeting. This will be at the Anoka KC hall on October 20th. More details will be released as we have them. We will need your help.
Marathon Information
Brother Knights, The Marathon for Non-Public Education is coming up. We will work with Epiphany church and the Epiphany Knights on this project. It will be held at the Coon Rapids dam. Our job will be to help with the grilling, and passing out hot dogs and potato chips. The date is October 4th. Time will be 7:30 am with additional help needed around 9:00 am to serve food. Knights that would like to help, please call Dick Dols at 763-786-6294.
Overall the Carnival grossed about $8,700 more than last year, with the Grill around $500 more. This was the first year the Grill sold bottled water and pop, which went over very well. Many thanks to the Knights and ladies who worked the grill, and especially Al Loerzel and Jim Ackermann who ran the Friday night and Sunday shifts.
Here it is, the beginning of the 2003-2004 year, and I am in my second term as your president. I hope I am more organized and knowledgeable this year. I thank all of you for your trust in electing me to a second term.
Tonight we started our year with a pot luck. Everything was delicious. Thanks to all of the ladies for their wonderful contributions. At our meeting we went over the 2003-2004 calendar of events and signed up our chairpersons for all of our events. Thank you to all of those who will be chairing our events this year.
Don't forget the Ladies Fall Bowling Tournament is Saturday September 27th in Faribault. Gladys has done a wonderful job lining up all of our bowlers. Good luck to everyone, as I am not able to attend this year.
October is the start of the second Sunday breakfasts. Please come and help our men with this event. It is a fun time! We also have the Fall Workshop on Saturday October 11th in Fridley. This will be my first official event as State Treasurer.
Our next meeting is on Wednesday October 15th. This is the steak fry dinner. I look forward to seeing everyone there.
Please remember to keep our knights and ladies in your thoughts and prayers.
The council fall steak fry will be October 15th. Social is from 6:00 to 6:45 with dinner around 6:45. The menu will be salad, sirloin steak, baked potatoes and ice cream for dessert.
