GUIDEPOST

Grand Knight's Message

Brother Knights the month of July is gone and August is well underway. The Grand Knights and Financial Secretary's training was held on August 17th, Jim Ackerman and I attended. Jim said that his portion of the training was informative. My portion of the seminar was fun and reminded me of my responsibilities to you and the council. They made a point of recruitment and retention. They made it a point that all members of the council need to help recruiting. So, if you have some one that you think might like to join us, ask them to. If you feel you cannot ask them, contact me, and I will see to it that the prospect is contacted. Supreme's goal for our council is 11 new members and 6 new insurance members. As of my henpecking on this note, we had one new applicant.

Here are some activities that have come and gone and some that are upcoming. The golf outing was held at the end of July. This was a success and a good time was had by all. We helped out at St. Joe's festival again on August 10th. We had a great turn out from our council. Thank you to all of you that showed up to help. The State Camporee is next. If you can't come out for the whole weekend come out for Saturday and have some fun with us. In September, we have St. Tim's Carnival and the annual fishing trip.

I know some of you, like me, feel frustrated to read this article only to find the activity date has passed. In an attempt to correct this, I will put together a yearly activity preview and post it in next month's guidepost. I am not sure if it will be an insert or just part of the guidepost. Whatever form it takes post it some where for a handy reference to our events.

Keep in your prayers Steve Schuetze who has been diagnosed with Scleroderma.

A little Humor

A clergyman was walking down the street when he came upon a group of about a dozen boys, all of them between 10 and 12 years of age. The group surrounded a dog. Concerned lest the boys were hurting the dog, he went over and asked, "What are you doing with that dog?" One of the boys replied, "This dog is just an old neighborhood stray. We all want him, but only one of us can take him home. So we've decided that whichever one of us can tell the biggest lie will get to keep the dog." Of course, the reverend was taken aback. "You boys shouldn't be having a contest telling lies!" he exclaimed. He then launched into a ten-minute sermon against lying, beginning, "Don't you boys know it's a sin to lie," and ending with, "Why, when I was your age, I never told a lie." There was dead silence for about a minute. Just as the reverend was beginning to think he'd gotten through to them, the smallest boy gave a deep sigh and said, "All right, give him the dog."

Ladies Auxiliary

It's the beginning of the 2002-03 year and I am looking forward to the opportunity to be your president this year. Though I am nervous, I know there are many ladies I can look to for guidance and advice.

This is going to be a busy year. First we help our men at the Brat stand at the St Tim's Carnival Sept 6-8. Our first meeting is Sept. 18 and then on to the bowling tournament at Southtown on Sept. 28. This is always a good time. If anyone is still interested in bowling, please contact Gladys Resler. Then onto one of the most important events for this year. We will be hosting the 2002 State Workshop on Sat. Oct. 12. If you are planning on attending or helping hostess the event, please contact Jean Ackermann. I hope to see everyone there! Ladies please bring a dish to the next general meeting because this is our put luck meeting.

Have a great summer and a safe and relaxing Labor Day.
