Grand Knight’s Message
Greetings Knights and Ladies. Last months guidepost had a picture of the new council banner. Further explanation is needed. The money for the hardware that holds up the banner was donated by Joe Hillenbrand. The 3rd degree emblem was donated by Dick Dols and the banner was assembled by the Gerald Arel family.
The men’s fishing trip was a good time even with a small turnout. It was held at Break in the Lake resort on Cass Lake on September 7th and 8th. Wayne Bromen won the cribbage tournament on Saturday. John Hudek won the biggest fish tournament with a 2 and half pound northern. Friday evening the resort served us a 10 oz. steak with trimmings. Many thanks to John Streit who deep fried a delicious shore lunch Saturday afternoon. Last but not least, I’d like to personally thank Steve Silverdahl for organizing the trip, acquiring door prizes and other time consuming duties related to the weekend.
The other activity that a lot of members and wives participated in was the St. Tim’s carnival. The weekend weather started off cool and progressively warmed up, which meant the St. Tim’s grill did a brisk business. The gross income from the grill was up 27% from last year. The hot selling items were hamburgers, pock chops and turkey legs. The proceeds from the grill go to St. Tim’s church for their many programs. On behalf of St. Tim’s I would like to thank my co-chair, Wally Fletcher and the many knights and ladies who worked a shift or two and especially individuals who helped clean up.
In closing, October brings us the first 2nd Sunday breakfast and the fall steak fry where we enjoy great fellowship.
Yours in Christ.

Insurance Notes
QUESTION: I have some investments with a financial planner and they have really been making me nervous, what with the ups and downs of the markets. For saftety, he recommended a Money Market Mutual Fund. By the time I calculate the management fees, though, I’m not making much return on my money. Do the KC’s have anything safe and sure with low fees?
Answer: Great question! Recently, the Knights of Columbus rolled out a brand new savings product called the Vantage Annuity. This annuity has no loads or expense ratios (A couple of terms to learn: “loads” are commissions associated with transactions and “expense ratios” refer to account management fees). The interest rates are guaranteed for five years, at which point you may withdraw the money with no surrender charge, or you may leave the money in another five years. The new Vantage Annuity is very popular with those people who like safety and a good rate of return. The minimum deposit is $25,000. On accounts over $100,000, a 0.2% bonus is paid on all dollars in the annuity. Of course, we still have our hugely popular Flexible Premium Annuity (FPA) program, as well. It, too, pays a competitive interest rate, but the interest rate may vary after the first year. However, the minimum deposit required in only $300. After the first year you may withdraw up to 10% of your funds once each year from either the Vantage annuity or the FPA annuity with no surrender charges.
So, if the market makes you nervous and you are tired of paying fees and commissions on your money, a Knights of Columbus annuity may be the right vehicle for you. Of course, please be sure to consider your options carefully. Your Knights of Columbus Insurance Field Agent is available to answer your questions about our family of fine financial products. Give him a call! You have nothing to lose – we guarantee it!
