Brother Knights, another month has come and gone. Can you believe it! Summer is gone and fall is starting to arrive. I have just completed an enjoyable fishing trip with my Brother Knights. I would like to thank Larry Silverdahl for once again putting together a wonderful trip. Please think about joining us next year for this event. The carnival held at St Tim's was really hot, so thank you to all that volunteered for this.
There are a few upcoming events to start thinking about. They are: One, the Marathon for non-public education, we can always use help for this one. Two, the general council meeting in October, which is the steak fry meeting. The steaks are good and so is the company. Call your Deputy Grand Knight Dick Dols for reservations. Third and last, start watching for turkeys to go on sale, if you can store them. In November, we will be asking for turkey donations to the Senior Citizens Christmas Party.
I am sorry that the calendar will not get printed with this guidepost. I was lax in getting it prepared for this printing. It is under way and will be available for the next guidepost.

We had a good turnout at the Brat stand at St.Tim's Carnival earlier this month. I know I had a good time working there, even though it was very warm. It was good to see everyone there.
During the September meeting, the draft membership list and calendar were distributed and reviewed. I will make the necessary changes and distribute final copies at the October meeting. Thank you to everyone who volunteered to be chairperson of the events. We are going to have a lot of fun this year.
We had 8 ladies bowl and 4 more join us for lunch at the State Bowling Tournament. A good time was had by all.
October 12 and the State Workshop are not far away. If you have not already, please contact Jean Ackermann to volunteer to hostess or to attend this event. Our chairpersons have done a wonderful job with the decorations and food. We are very proud of all of their efforts. I hope we have a large turnout for our council.
The second Sunday brunches are starting on October 13, 2002. Lets help the KC's in any way possible.
A special request to keep Gladys Resler in our prayers as she continues to heal from her surgery. She is doing great and will be back to 110% very soon! Also, please keep all the other Ladies and Knights that need our support in your prayers.

"Is it proper for a man to profit from the mistakes of another?" a parishioner asked his minister."Definitely not," was the preacher's answer.
"Are you absolutely certain?"
"Yes, my son, absolutely."
"Okay. In that case, I wonder if you'd mind returning that $25 I gave you after my wedding last year?"
You can tell times are tough. You may be getting calls or mailings from agents or representatives of insurance companies and investment firms. Their pitch is to have you cash in your whole life insurance, pay for term insurance and invest the rest in, of course, their company. This is, in essence, as selling your home, renting instead, and taking the money and speculating it on the stock market. You may make more or you may not but that is not the concern of the agent telling you to do this foolish act; all he or she wants you to do is to buy from them so that they can earn commission off your money.
Don't be duped! Don't be forced or tricked into doing this. Take the time to investigate before you sign your nestegg away with someone you may not even know. Check their ratings with outside sources, (Standard & Poor or A.M. Best). Then call your KC agent. He is a Brother Knight looking after your best interest; what is best for you, not him. He will give you the clear story on your insurance needs.
Call the general agent, Dale Robinson, at 651-653-3946.
Do not look at the faults of what others have done or not done; observe what you yourself have done or not done.

It's hard to believe but it's time to start up the Sunday breakfast again. This is our third source of income, right behind the Lenten fish frys and the concertina party. In order for the council to operate and be able to give to charities we need this income. This is a great way to put in some time for the council. You can work as much or as little as you want. We start at 7 A.M. and hopefully we are out the door by 1 P.M. We need servers, runners, dishwashers, as well as cooks. Our first breakfast is Sunday, October 13th.
We are also looking for different items to serve. Our basic menu is scrambled eggs, pancakes and french toast, with some type of meat. Every once in a while we throw an egg bake in there. But we would like to have a variety to keep our menu fresh and interesting. The recipe needs to be somewhat simple to make in mass as well as simple to serve. So far, I have been given a recipe for swedish pancakes, but I'm sure there are some family favorites that you may want to share.
Call or e-mail me marcsharonpeters@usfamily.net and give me your ideas or suggestions on how to improve. And be sure and have breakfast with us every second Sunday at the hospitality center.

The 2002 fall classic is in need of volunteers. It will be held at Wells Fargo lanes in South St. Paul on November 1st thru the 3rd. Our 3 days of competition will start at 9 a.m. on the 1st; 8:30 a.m. on the 2nd and 3rd. Friday there will be 3 shifts; Saturday, 4; and Sunday, 3. We need 60 volunteers per shift plus about 20 others to help with lunch. Breakfast requires 15 volunteers per day. The Friday dinner requires 125 volunteers and the Saturday night pizza party needs 25. Our most critical day is Sunday. All volunteers who work the 1st shift receive a free breakfast. Volunteers who spend the day with us also receive lunch. Volunteer registration forms should be returned to Ray Marshall by October 15th. Whether you can spend the day with us or just a few hours, it's an experience you'll never forget. Please join us! For a registration form and/or to volunteer, please call Ray Marshall at 651-455-3220.

Brother Knights, the Marathon for Non-Public Education is coming up. The date is October 5th. It is being held at the Coon Rapids Dam. Time will be 7:30 AM. Our job will be to grill wieners and pass out about 1,200 hot dogs and potato chips. If there are any Knights that would like to help, please call Dick Dols. We will be serving around 9:00 AM, so all latecomers are welcome.
The council fall steak fry will be October 16th. Social is from 6:00 to 6:45 pm. The dinner will be around 6:45. The menu will be salad, sirloin steak, baked potatoes and ice cream for dessert. The cost will be $7.00 per person. It will be held in the Hospitality center. If the Hospitality center is reserved, we will move to the annex. Please RSVP by calling Dick or Jan Dols by October 13th.
Overall, the carnival grossed about $9,500 less than last year, with the Grille about $1,300 less. This was due to the extreme heat. Bottled water was a big seller with 600 bottles sold Friday and Saturday. Many thanks to the Knights and ladies who worked the grill and especially the cooks. Hopefully, next year will not be as hot.
