Grand Knights Message

Brother Knights, our fraternal year is well under way. We have already completed two main events. The events were the Marathon for Non-public education and the first of our Second Sunday Brunches. I have had a meeting with the Pastoral council and recruitment of members at St. Tim's. As I write this letter, the October general council meeting, the steak fry, has been completed. The food was delicious and the conversation enjoyable. Please feel free to join us at any of the general meetings; we would enjoy seeing fresh faces.

The Marathon for Non Public education was a success. We served roughly 800 hot dogs. The turn out of helpers from both the Epiphany council and the Blaine/Coon Rapids council was excellent. Thank you all for your help. Dick Dols did a wonderful job of organizing this event again. A special thanks to Wally Fletcher for providing all the power that was needed to run warmers, pa's, and coffee pots.

There are a few upcoming events that need to be mentioned. First is the training session to be held at the KC hall in Anoka for recruitment. The other two are Memorial mass held on our general council meeting night and a recruitment drive to be held on a weekend in probably either December or January.

As I mentioned earlier in this letter, I had a meeting with the Pastoral Council of St. Tim's. My agenda item was recruitment for the council at St. Tim's. I explained to them our situation; that we need to recruit members and why. I then asked for their support in what is being called a Recruitment Blitz. This blitz would be members of our council standing at the exits of the church actively asking men as they exited if they would like to join. The idea was well received. There is still some planning to do. Please come help formulate a plan at either the next officers meeting or general council meeting.

The first Second Sunday brunch for the year is complete. It was a learning experience for me, but all went well. We served around 200 people between all three masses. We had enough help. Thank you to all of you that came and supported this event. We will need more help at the next one so please come help us. We broke even between expenses and what we took in. We had several nice comments and may even have picked up new member.

Grill Storage

If anyone has space to store the KC grill over the winter please call the Grand Knight.

2003 Special Olympics

Help is still needed especially Friday and Saturday for bowling. If interested contact Ray Marshall.

Ladies Auxiliary

The last month has been a busy one with the State Bowling Tournament and the Fall Workshop. I heard a good time was had by all who attended the bowling tournament in Faribault. Congratulations to our ladies that won the tournament! Some of us attended the Fall Workshop this last weekend. Fridley did a very nice job of hosting the event. We had a wonderful speaker, a nice luncheon, and learned some good information. We had our steak fry with the men this month. The steaks were wonderful! Jan Dols and Mary Hosford are in complete control on the convention plans for next year. They are so organized and ahead of schedule. We are going to host a convention that we can be very proud of.

I also made the announcement that I will be stepping down as president at the end of this year. Jean will also be giving up her trustee position. I am more than willing to hold a different office, I just unfortunately cannot devote the time I need to be a good president for you. If you are interested in the position, please feel free to contact me.

A reminder that next months meeting is the Memorial Mass. The ladies are to provide the snacks for after the mass. We also have the second Sunday breakfast on Nov 9. Please come and help if you can.

Yesterday we lost a dear friend when Jane Nieland passed away. Please keep Frank and the rest of her family in your prayers. Also, please remember Duane (Tiny) and Margo and all of our other knights and their ladies that may be dealing with health issues.

Take care of yourselves and we will see you in November.

Memorial Mass

Our annual memorial mass will be at 7:00 PM November 25th at St. Timothy's Church. After the mass we will go to the hospitality center for snacks. Please join us for this evening.

Marathon Recap

Brother Knights, the marathon has come and gone. It was held on October 4th. The marathon turnout was down a little from last year, but we still fed around 820 people hot dogs and chips. Twelve knights helped out, six each from our council and Epiphany's council. We split food cost with their council. By the way, it was the warmest day that anyone can remember for the marathon.
