Grand Knight's Message

Greetings, Brother Knights. September has come and gone and October is here. Like the changing seasons, our council is changing gears. That is, we are entering our most busy period. In the past month, we have completed the final clean up of the Rose Center for its grand opening. At that time, we also delivered the three computers donated by the council and our Auxiliary. Three other events that have transpired are the Marathon for Non-public Education, the First of our Second Sunday brunches, and the Ladies Auxiliary hosting the State Workshop. All three events were a success.

Upcoming events in November are the Officers Meeting on the 6th, Second Sunday brunch on the 10th and our general meeting on the 20th. In December, we are hosting the Senior Citizens Christmas Party again. With that said, at the end of November, the week of the 25th through 29th, Lorraine Koss would like all turkeys donated for the Christmas party delivered. The drop dead date is the 29th, so she can get them cooked and deboned. There is an event in November that, while is not directly sponsored or hosted by the council is important. It is Election Day on November 5th. Part of our beliefs as knights is Patriotism and it is your patriotic duty to get out and vote. So I hope this message reaches you in time to urge you to vote on that date. If you do not know where to vote at, call your city hall and they can get you in touch with some one to tell you where your polling station is.

In the last guidepost, we posted that at the next meeting we were going to discuss buying a computer for the Financial Secretary. The purchase of that computer is completed. I would like to thank all of you for your input on this subject. If you would like to know the details of the machine contact the Financial Secretary.

I have been promising a list of the years events in a condensed document. Well barring, any publishing snafus here it is. It is really only the last 8 months of our year. A new one for the 2003/2004-year will be included in the June newsletter.

Prayer Concerns

Keep in your prayers Dale and Jerry Fischer. Jerry was in need of a Kidney and his brother Dale was a perfect match. Jerry is recovering well, but Dale is fighting off complications from the surgery. Also keep in your prayers Ken Rosen. His mother died recently.

Ladies Auxiliary

During the September meeting, the draft membership list and calendar of events were distributed and reviewed. Thank you to all who volunteered to be the chairperson of the events. Final copies are being distributed during the October meeting.

We had a good time at the State Bowling Tournament. While attendance at this event is down overall, our council again had the most ladies participating. We do know how to have a good time.

As I write this, we have just finished hosting the Women's State Auxiliary Workshop. This was my first time at one of these events and I had a wonderful time. The speaker, Father Backman, was excellent. I saw some tears flowing during his speech. I would like to extend a very special thank you to all of you who put all the time into planning this event. Our council can be very proud of the work they did.

Jean has talked us into hosting the State Convention in April 2004, so start gathering your ideas and thoughts on paper for when the official planning starts.

Please remember to bring your Hors d'oeuvres for the Memorial Mass on 11/20/02. Also, Lorraine would like the turkeys for the Senior Christmas Party by 11/29/02. The party is on December 6th this year.

A Little Humor
Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day.

Teach a man to fish and he will go out and buy expensive fishing equipment, stupid looking clothes, a sports utility vehicle, travel 1000 miles to the "hottest" fishing spot, and stand waist deep in cold water just so he can outsmart a fish. (Average cost per fish: $395.68)

Something to think about
Do not look at the faults of what others have done or not done; observe what you yourself have done or not done..

Marathon Wrap Up

The marathon went very well. Epiphany Church earned $88,000, which goes towards their elementary school. It rained Friday and Sunday so the only nice day was Saturday which was the day the marathon was held. We fed around 850 people, so many thanks to the six Knights from our council that helped out.

Outing Wrap Up

Our annual golf & fishing outing was held on September 13-15th at Ball Club Lake lodge. It was attended by 29 brother Knights.

It was a bit windy on Saturday but we still had a very good time. The lodging and food was superb. Keep watching the guidepost to see if there will be a change for next year.

Memorial Mass

Our next general council meeting on November 20th is the memorial mass. Please come and help use honor and remember our Brother Knights that have passed away. The mass will start at 7PM with hospitality afterwards in the gym. The meeting will follow.
