GUIDEPOST

Grand Knights Message

Greetings brother knights, another year has come and gone. I do not have a lot to say this month, because things are wrapping up. I attended the 102nd State convention in St. Cloud. I was kept busy as an election judge/teller. Essentially I distributed, picked up, and counted ballots on elections to the state offices. All had a good time.

Grand Knight Ken Resler receiving congratulations from State Deputy Darryl Tveitbakk at the state convention. The council received a "participant" award for programs.

I have been pleased over the past few months to see new faces at all of our events. I would like to see those same faces at our meetings. If you know of a knight sitting at home on a 3rd Wednesday invite him to the meeting. Who knows, maybe we can turn them into an officer.

Even though this article will get to you after the fact, we will have held the election of Officers at the May 21, 2003 meeting. The following people were elected: for GK, Ken Resler, DGK, Dick Dols, Chancellor, Jerome Hacker, Recorder, Mike Medcalf, Warden, Steve Schuetze, Treasurer, Dick Epp, Advocate, Duane Arett, Inside Guard, Wally Fletcher, Outside Guard, Bob Boeding, and Trustees, Al Lorzel, Gary Hallman, and Dick Smith. There are some other positions open that need filling. If you feel the urge to help your Brother knights and fill in a position, let me know.

Our next three events are: installation of officers, year-end dinner, and Blaine's Blazin 4th parade. Come see your brothers installed as your officers. Have a drink with them at the year-end dinner. Wave to them from the parade route and try to recruit some one from the crowd to join our group.

Please keep in your prayers the following people: Don Carson; he went in for Kidney surgery and had a heart attack after that, Phil Hallman, who was involved in an auto accident.

Ladies Auxiliary

Well, my first year as president of the auxiliary has come and gone. I am excited to have been re-elected for a second year. I hope we have just as much fun next year as this was. Thank you to everyone for being patient and understanding as I learned how things were done.

The ladies had their last meeting as a "Ladies Night Out" at Old Country Buffet. As always, there was too much food to choose from. Awards were handed out to everyone who chaired or co-chaired a committee. Thank you to all for volunteering to be in charge of our events.

The ladies won't have a meeting again until September, but don't forget our summer events. We start with installation of officers on June 25. The ladies will be providing desserts. We will start with dinner at 6:00. Then on June 27th, we have the year end dinner at BrookHall. I look forward to seeing everyone there. Also on June 28th, is Blaine's Blazin 4th Parade. Please come ride the float with us. It is a lot of fun.

Have a safe and wonderful summer. We will see everyone again in September.

A little light bulb humor

Q: How many psychologists does it take to change a light bulb?

A: None, the bulb will change itself when it is ready.

Q: How many programmers does it take to change a light bulb?

A: None. "You gotta hardware problem? Call the maintenance engineer".

Q: How many law professors does it take to change a light bulb?

A: Heck, you need 250 just to lobby for the research grant.

Something to think about

Reason and the ability to use it are two separate skills.

When God Created Fathers

When the good Lord was creating Fathers he started with a tall frame, and a female angel nearby said, "What kind of Father is that? If you're going to make children so close to the ground, why have you put Fathers up so high? He won't be able to shoot a marble without kneeling, tuck a child in bed without bending, or even kiss a child without a lot of stooping."

And God smiled and said, "Yes, but if I make him child size, who would children have to look up to?

And when God made a Father's hands, they were large and sinewy.

And the angel shook her head sadly and said, "Do you know what you are doing? Large hands are clumsy. They can't manage diaper pins, small buttons, and rubber bands on pony tails or even remove splinters caused by baseball bats."

And God smiles and said, "I know but they're larger enough to hold everything a small boy empties from his pockets at the end of the day…yet small enough to cup a child's face in his hands."

And then God molded long, slim legs and broad shoulders.

And the angel nearly had a heart attack. "Boy this is the end of the week, all right," she clucked. "Do you realize you just made a Father without a lap? How is he going to pull a child close to him without the kid falling between his legs?"

And God smiled and said, "A Mother needs a lap. A Father needs strong shoulders to pull a sled, balance a boy on a bicycle, or hold a sleepy head on the way home from the circus."

God was in the middle of creating two of the largest feet anyone had ever seen when the angel could contain herself no longer. "That's not fair. Do you honestly think those larger boats are going to dig out of bed early in the morning when the baby cries? Or walk through a small birthday party without crunching at least three guests?"

And God smiled and said, "they'll work. You'll see. They'll support a small child who wants to ride a horse to Banbury Cross, or scare off mice at the summer cabin, or display shoes that will be a challenge to fill."

God worked throughout the night, giving the Father few words, but a firm, authoritative voice; eyes that saw everything, but remained calm and tolerant.

Finally, almost as an after-thought, he added - tears. Then he turned to the angel and said, "Now are you satisfied that he can love as much as a Mother?

The angel shuteth up.

Year End Dinner

The year end dinner is fast approaching. It will be held on June 27th at Brooke Hall near Blainebrook. The cost is $10.00 per couple or $5.00 for singles. There will be a social at 6:00 with dinner at 7:00 PM. The dinner will be a buffet of chicken and beef.

Fall Fishing Trip

There is still plenty of room for the fishing trip September 12th-14th. It will be held at Woman Lake near Hackensack.

Golf Tournament

The St. Tim's Men's Club and Knights of Columbus golf tournament will be held on Saturday July 26th. The cost is approximately $17.00. The party is at Jay Wiedell's new place. The tournament will most likely be held at Majestic Oaks again. Please call Vern or Barb at 763-757-5474 to sign up and for payment. Thanks.

 Blazing 4th Parade

Our council is sponsoring a float for the Blaine Blazing 4th parade June 28th. The parade starts at noon. We need people to ride the float and pass out tootsie rolls left over from the tootsie roll drive. We will meet at St. Tim's at 11:00 AM. We will then ride over to the parade route. Call the Grand Knight if you wish to participate.

Saints Game

Interested in going to a Saints baseball game with the St. Tim's Men's Club? Call Mike Huey at 763-786-2585. The game is on June 8th at 1:05 PM. The cost is $10.00 per ticket.

Tootsie Roll Wrap Up

Due to the very nice weekend April 25th-27th the tootsie roll drive was a huge success. Thirty two Knights and ladies collected $2605.00 from four stores. This amount minus the cost of the tootsie rolls will be donated to ARC of Anoka County. Many thanks to everyone who volunteered their time on this project.

State Camporee

In last month's Guidepost you will find information on reserving a site for the Knight's of Columbus annual family camporee at the KOA in Jordan. Below is a registration form for meals.
