Knights of Columbus
GUIDEPOST
Grand Knights Message
Greetings Knights and ladies. Congratulations to Bob Nelson who was initiated in the Knights of Columbus Sunday February 17 at the Anoka K.C. Hall.
Winter is moving along quite well. The 30th annual Concertina Bowl January 26th was a huge success. Despite icy roads in Wisconsin, which cut down on attendance, 497 customers came through the door. The dance floor came and went down with out a hitch. Food for the kitchen arrived and was ready to serve at noon. Knights and ladies who helped did a wonderful job. Thanks to all. Further, thanks to Jerome Hacker who made phone calls to schedule workers, Tom Fluegel who closed up and Art Ohotto who volunteers many hours working on advertising, booking musicians and other behind the scenes work. Around $2800 was earned, which is earmarked towards council charities. Five Fish Fries have come and gone as of this printing. The first one was a challenge because the four French Fry baskets disappeared over summer (does anyone know where they went?) and a thermostat went out on one side of a French fryer. Never the less, the last four went well with crowds in the 350 range. Thanks to all the Knights and ladies who give up their time on Fridays to make this fundraiser a huge success. Lastly, the February 10th 2nd Sunday Breakfast which was an Egg Bake, had low numbers due to temperatures of -14 that morning. Thanks to Don Hosford who chaired the event along with the Knights and ladies, some who worked the second fish fry also.
March brings us the end of fish fries and possibly the last breakfast.
Members, please plan on attending council meetings once in a while, meet your brother Knights and enjoy some ice cream.
Have a prayerful holy week and a Happy Easter.
Yours in Christ

Prayer Concerns
This month we pray for Pat Boeding wife of Bob, Ed Wagner, and the four children who were killed in a bus accident near Cottonwood, MN.
May we pray for all these people and all of our friends and families.
Notes of Interest
The spring steak fry will be April 16th. Social begins at 6 pm. Steaks will be on the grill starting at 6:30. More information in April’s Guidepost.
Nominations of officers for the council year 2008-2009 will take place at the April and May membership meeting. Some officers wish to retire. New faces are welcome, new ideas, younger members all are needed. Duties include attending most of the officer, membership meetings and supporting most of the council fund raisers. Guess what, if no one comes forward the council will slowly die. Call Dick Dols during March or attend up coming membership meetings to express your interest in serving as an officer.
Easter
Easter is the springtime of the year for Christians. We have experienced the death and dying of winter...the snow, cold and dreary days. We have glimpses of sunshine during that period that give us hope of new life to come.
Of all the Liturgical times of year, this is the most important. That is a transition from death to new life. Jesus at the Last Supper shared the bread and wine with his disciples. He told them it was His Body and Blood and commanded them to “do this in memory of me.” The death on the cross was his way to give himself to us and remind us of the Father's love in forgiving our sins. The Easter Vigil is a unique ceremony that starts in darkness and celebrates the appearance of Christ as Light, Word, Water and Eucharist.
We are Easter people because we have been saved by Jesus Christ. Come and join the celebration.

Fish Fries
Two more fish fries are left. Thanks for everyone’s help so far. More help is needed Saturday mornings for draining oil, cleaning fryers and cleaning up the kitchen.
Call the Grand Knight for more Saturday morning information. The confirmation groups have been most helpful during fish fries.
Thank you,
Dave Lodermier and Dick Dols
Casino Trip
The ladies auxiliary is hosting their annual casino run on April 13th. If you know of anyone that wants to come along, please share the flyer that is attached with all the information. Contact Jan Dols or Delores Yenor to sign up. Must sign up by April 13th. We are planning on two buses, so come one, come all.
2nd Sunday Breakfast
Non fish fry help needed
The March breakfast will be on the 9th at St. Tim’s Hospitality Center. Shifts are 7 to 10:30 am and 10:30 to 1:30 pm. Anyone willing to come after the 11 am mass to help clean up will be most welcome. Please call Bob Roiger at 763-784-XXXX to let him know of your interest to work and the preferred shift. I hope that members not working fish fries can come and work a shift. We will be doing a regular breakfast and proceeds will be going to the Fr. George Kolath Scholarship Fund. Last month profits were $158.42 which went towards St. Timothy’s Mission Trip.
Insurance Notes
QUESTION: In 2003, I was approached by an agent with [name omitted] life insurance company who convinced me to cash in my 24 year old Knights of Columbus life insurance policy for a new Variable Universal Life policy. I am now being asked to pay higher premiums. Can you tell me why?
ANSWER: You may be able to pursue legal action against the company and agent who did this to you. You were apparently a victim of “churning.” This is when you are convinced to cash in an existing permanent life policy and use the cash value to pay for a new policy. Unfortunately, your new policy underperformed so the company could not follow through on its promises. I know of NO life insurance company that pays a higher dividend than the Knights of Columbus (over 8%). Contact your KC agent to determine if you are able to reinstate your KC policy.
We are currently seeking motivated and enthusiastic people to join our professional field force of Knights of Columbus agents. Call or email us if you, or somebody you know, may be interested. Send your questions to kcquestions@catholic.org or call us at 651-757-4400. If you would prefer a personal reply, please be sure to provide your contact information.
