Grand Knights Message

Greetings Knights and Ladies. Congratulations to Pete Rothstein and Randy Bauer who were initiated into the Knights of Columbus on February 13th at the Anoka KC hall.

The concertina party, which is the council's first major fundraiser, was not well attended due to the major snow storm we had the day before. The customers from outstate had some difficult driving conditions to get here. Income was down, but everyone seemed to be having a good time. Thanks to Jerome Hacker who did a lot of behind the scenes work, including lining up workers. Other thanks to Art Ohotto the overall chairman who worked many hours on this fundraiser.

We have started the fish fries and they seem to be well attended with plenty of help from KC members, Ladies Auxiliary members and from our confirmation groups. We are about half way, so everyone keep up the good work. The same can not be said for our 2nd Sunday breakfasts. The last breakfast was short of help. Anyone not working the fish fries, please call the chairman of the March breakfast (see enclosed article). It is a good way for new members, transfers and members who want to get active to do so at a smaller activity. Wives are also welcome.

At the February membership meeting a check for $2,096.17 was presented to Julie Nelson-Gotham representing the Sue Fischer scholarship fund. This check is the proceeds from the benefit pancake breakfast that was held Sunday January 9th.

In closing have a blessed Lenten season and a very Happy Easter.

Ladies Auxiliary

I'm back from Arizona and really enjoyed the weather with it being in the 70's almost every day. I can honestly say I didn't miss the cold. We saw Gladys and Lenny Resler and Bev and Wayne Bromen. Gladys and Lenny have a very nice trailer in a gated community.

Like Jan said in the last guidepost the Lenten fish fries are back, also the bake sales. Let's bake up a storm for our one and only fundraiser.

Our auxiliary has changed a by-law with the approval of the State board. Our old by-law stated, blood relative of a Knight, now it reads, Catholic woman who believe in the purpose of the Knights of Columbus. By making this change, we hope to improve our membership. Ladies lets see some new faces.

Prayer Concerns

For former member Ben Norloch who was hospitalized with heart disease.

For Irv Horning who had surgery February 14th for bowel resection.

For Ashley Resler daughter of kens and Sandy who has been experiencing frequent migraines.

We pray for these and all family members of the Knights of Columbus.

Notes of Interest

Both the officers and membership meetings will be held in the hospitality center until further notice. A reminder that the officer meetings are open to anybody who wishes to attend. Both meetings begin at 7:30 PM.

2nd Sunday Breakfast

The next breakfast will be March 13th in the St. Tim's hospitality center. Shifts to work are 7:00 AM to 10:30 AM or 10:30 AM to 1:30 PM. Work as long as you want or come late to help clean up.

KCIC International Camporee

The summer KC International camporee will be held July 30th thru August 5th. It will be held at O'Connell's Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park, near Amboy Illinois. Many activities are being planned as well as meals such as roast beef dinner and breakfast buffets.

RV's, campers, plus camper cabins and park models are for rent. Stay a few days or the week. RSVP due April 1st.

Insurance Notes

QUESTION: Due to a recent injury, I am disabled and no longer able to work. I have two whole life policies with the KC's and a term life policy. Is there any way I can use my life insurance to help me through these tough times?

ANSWER: I'm sorry to hear about your difficulties. If your policy has a disability waiver of premium rider, you can ask the Order to pay your premiums for you. This will allow your policy to continue in force, just as if you were paying the premiums yourself. It will create no loans and you will still participate in dividends as they are paid. This will free up some valuable money for you. Or, if you do not have this rider, you may already have enough dividends to pay your policy premiums for you. In addition, if your disability is permanent and you have the disability rider, your term policy may eventually be converted to permanent policy and premiums will be paid on your behalf on that policy also. Contact your agent to determine your options.

One of the most valuable features of your permanent whole life policies is the cash value build up. You may access this cash and use it for any reason whatsoever. Depending on how long you have owned this policy, your cash value may be quite significant. This cash can be provided to you in the form of dividend distributions or via policy loan. Again, your agent will be able to assist you by answering questions and helping you complete the forms to access your money. May God bless you in your difficult times.

Tootsie Roll Campaign

Once again our Tootsie Roll drive will be held in April on the 29th and 30th as well as May 1st. We will need a lot of help again this year. Hopefully we have Star Liquor Friday night and Saturday. We are also looking to Wal-Mart in Blaine on the Friday and Saturday. The sign up sheet will be passed around at the next meetings, so please sign up for a time to work. Thank you.

Concertina Party

As the chairman of the concertina party I would like to thank each and every one of you who put in hours of work out in front and behind the scenes. I feel our attendance at the door could have been larger, but all in all it turned out great. Thank you all.

Jerome Hacker
