GUIDEPOST
Grand Knights Message
Greetings Knights and ladies. Congratulations to Paul Thronson and Dick Shea who were initiated in the 1st degree May 13 at the Anoka K.C. Hall. Welcome to the council. May was a relaxing month for the council. The state convention was May 16-18, I did not attend. Council members Duane Arett and Jim Ackermann did and sounded like they had a good time. Our council came home with the 2007-2008 Program and Membership Excellence Award.
June brings us the end of the council year. The last social event is the year end dinner. Let’s support this activity. The food is excellent. You all are invited to this banquet to help celebrate the end to a great year and the beginning of a new council year.
Yours in Christ.
Dick Dols

Tootsie Roll Drive
Thanks to the twenty eight Knights and two ladies who worked a shift in the Tootsie Roll Drive. It was a very cold weekend with snow on the ground the morning of the 26th. Despite the cold, monies collected totaled $3,386.06. The state K.C. Tootsie Roll committee deducts $20 per case for the Tootsie Rolls so the council will donate $3026.06 to ARC Greater Twin Cities. The ARC are a nonprofit agency serving the needs of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. I would like to thank the six Knights who called me to work a shift. Their names were put in a hat and the lucky winner of a $20 bill was Bob Cuddigan.

NEW ADVERTISEMENT ON RELEVANT RADIO
QUESTION: I have been a long time listener of Catholic Relevant Radio (AM 1330) and recently heard an advertisement about the Knights of Columbus. I think this is a great idea! Who came up with it?
ANSWER: You can thank the Field Agents of the Knights of Columbus Robinson Agency for the newfound publicity. In March, 2008, as an agency, we entered into a formal agreement with Relevant Radio to start a massive ad campaign to promote visibility of the Knights of Columbus and boost membership. We decided that more had to be done in “getting the word out,” that we are a viable and active organization dedicated to strengthening and defending our Catholic faith. So far, the reviews have been great!
In addition, we recently co-sponsored, along with Relevant Radio, the Senior Expo at the Mall of America, in an effort to show the public the many benefits of membership in the Order. It was a great success!
Now that the word is getting out, this is a great time to ask a Catholic family to join the Knights of Columbus. Take advantage of the advertising that is being done. Don’t let this opportunity pass your council by. Contact your field agent for more details about Relevant Radio and be sure to listen in!
We are currently seeking motivated and enthusiastic people to join our professional field force of Knights of Columbus agents. Call or email us if you, or somebody you know, may be interested.
Send your questions to kcquestions@catholic.org or call us at 651-757-4400. If you would prefer a personal reply, please be sure to provide your contact information.
Seminarian Notes
The Seminarians of the St. Paul Seminary had work cut out for them…
In October, various seminarians including myself, hosted the National Conference for Seminarians in Hispanic Ministry. Over 90 seminarians from across the country converged upon the St. Paul Seminary to hear various issues regarding Hispanic ministry.
In November, we had a 40 hours devotion of prayer between the St. Paul Seminary and St. John Vianney.
In December, we had the ordination of Fr. Steve Hoffman.
In January, my class (Theology II) was in Southern Minnesota for an experience of rural life and ministry.
Lent came in early February and Easter soon came in March and all of us were at our respective parishes assisting with the liturgy.
Before we knew it April arrived, along with the retirement of Archbishop Flynn, but not before making ordinations early and ordaining 5 new priests.
A week later into May, we were all present as Archbishop Nienstedt in his first Episcopal act, ordained 4 men to the transitional deaconate, 3 of which are for St. Paul and Minneapolis.
Somehow we managed to fit our studies in the mix!
The summer brings a bit of a break and we go to Venezuela for cultural immersion and return to St. Paul where I will serve at Our Lady of Guadalupe, the first Hispanic parish in the Archdiocese.
Despite the hectic schedule, it is a blessing having the privilege to study and pray in a program of formation for the diocesan priesthood. All of the work shows its worth in the wonderful experiences we encounter in the parish or the support from the knights. The prayers and support we receive assures me that people care for the future of the priesthood and most of all, for the mission of Christ whose mission I shall be entrusted to share.
Thank you for your support.

Special Message
Dear Brother Knights & Ladies,
It has been my pleasure to meet Knights & their families who are carrying
out the wishes of our founder, Father Michael McGivney and our heavenly Father,
our creator. I have seen devotion to ones faith, family and friends. I believe
those of us known as Knights of Columbus are truly on the right path to heaven.
Over the last four years, we have seen many changes in our lives, some of them
good and others not so good. All of you have been good for me. I would like to
thank you for the opportunity of working with you as your District Deputy. I
pray that GOD continues to bless each and everyone.
Sincerely,
Your Servant
Bob Mathewson, District Deputy #7
