GUIDEPOST
Grand Knights Message
Greetings Knights and Ladies. There was not much going on in May. The K.C. State Convention was May 19th to May 21st, which was after the Guidepost printing deadline, so I will report on that next month. In June, there are two fun events; the Ladies Auxiliary casino bus trip and the year end dinner. Let’s support these events. The year end dinner is where we honor active Knights and families, enjoy a good meal and fellowship. There will be door prizes as well.
I spent a week in New Orleans on vacation in early May. I saw many vacated homes, businesses and stores that were flooded. Many thousands of people lost their homes and jobs. It made me count my blessings compared to what many people went through last September.
Yours in Christ,
Dick Dols
Grand Knight

Tootsie Roll Campaign
Thanks to all who helped in the Tootsie Roll drive. The first weekend was warm which meant a lot of shoppers going into Wal-Mart. The second weekend was raining and cool, so we did not do as well.
With the help of Knights, ladies and two teenagers, we were able to collect $2,924.15. All proceeds minus the cost of Tootsie Rolls will go to ARC Greater Twin Cities, serving Anoka, Carver, Dakota, Hennepin, Ramsey, Scott and Washington counties.
Dick Dols Tootsie Roll chairman.

Computer Recycling Event
A new Minnesota law effective July 1 st, 2006 requires consumers to recycle CRT monitors. They can no longer be tossed into the garbage! We will properly recycle your old computers, monitors, printers, software, and other computer equipment. If you have some old computer equipment that needs to be disposed of in an environmentally way but don’t want to pay the high prices required for that disposal, we may be able to help.
The council is sponsoring a one day event to recycle computer/electronics equipment. The cost to recycle monitors is only $10, and printer recycling cost is only $5. All other computer equipment recycling is FREE. Please do not bring us your old TV’s.
Free recycling on desktop and laptop computers, speakers, keyboards, mice, software, cables, VCR players, DVD players, printer ink and toner cartridges, and old cell phones
This is a ONE DAY EVENT ONLY. Please bring your old equipment to the Annex east basement entrance on Sunday, June 11 th from 9 AM to 1 PM. Monitor and printer disposal fees are to be paid at time of drop off, and cash is preferred.
For more information about this event or information on local recycler that will take all of your electronic equipment, contact Jim Ackermann or e-mail him at jamesackermann@comcast.net.
Blaine Blazin 4 th Celebration
On Saturday June 24 th we will be involved in the parade. The parade begins at 12:00 noon. It begins at 117 th Jefferson St. NE and ends at Madison school. The council is sponsoring a 4 th degree float. We are looking for royalty to ride the float for this parade and possibly others that we are in. This can be Queens, Princesses of any daughters or granddaughters of Knights. If you know of someone who fits this description, contact me. Ages of these ladies should be between 15 and 22. We will meet at St. Tim’s parking lot at 10:30 AM.

Notes from Financial Secretary’s Desk
Annual membership bills will be mailed in mid-June. Only Honorary Life members and Disabled members will not receive a bill! I request that you please pay your membership dues promptly, as additional billing is an added expense to the council. Annual dues are $24 for regular membership, and $10 for Honorary members. If you are disabled and require relief from payment, please contact the Financial Secretary for the application paperwork. Last year we included a charity drive within the membership billing. I was remiss in not reporting that the council members donated a total of $191 to the “Pennies for Seminarians” fund and this was donated to the MN State Council at the May 2006 state convention in Moorhead. Thank you to all the members that made donations toward this campaign.

Beneficiaries…Who Have You Named?
Do you know who the beneficiary is on your life insurance policy? It would be a wise idea to find out – and update your beneficiaries if necessary. Pull out your policy and see who you named years ago.
Why is this important? A life insurance policy protects the financial status of another person – or people – in the event of your death. Through a beneficiary designation, you determine just who will receive the proceeds.
When you purchase a Knights of Columbus insurance policy, at a minimum, you must name a primary beneficiary. You don't have to name a contingent beneficiary or “secondary beneficiary.” However, it’s always a wise move because you might outlive your primary beneficiary. (The contingent beneficiary is the person designated to receive the life insurance policy proceeds if the primary beneficiary dies).
You should be as specific as possible in wording your beneficiary designation. By naming your spouse, daughter, son, Godchild etc., as beneficiary, you make sure that the life insurance proceeds will be available in a timely manner to them and no one else. Marriage or divorce does not automatically change the beneficiary designation.
Your life situation will undoubtedly change over time. Plan to update your declared beneficiaries periodically. Otherwise, the insurance company will have no way of knowing what your intentions are at each stage of your life. They will just follow the most recent instructions you gave them – that could be 20, 30, 40 or more years ago. I see the pain it causes when a logical beneficiary is told that someone else is going to receive the benefits of your policy. Only you can prevent that.
Changing your beneficiary is fairly simple. You just need to fill out a change of beneficiary form for each policy you want to change. I can provide you with the form, and help you to fill it out. If we haven't review your policy in a while, this may be the time to do it. Give me a call or when I call you, let’s set up a time to see if everything is still in order.
