GUIDEPOST
Grand Knights Message
Gentlemen, another year is done. I would like to thank our Past Grand Knight Dick Dols for a job well done. He has had the helm, held the reigns, hand on the tiller, etc. for the past four years. To keep the analogies going, I am back in the saddle again.
I hope that the 2008 – 2009 year will be a productive one for our council. As always my hope is that we can add to our ranks in the next year. To that end if you know some one that would make a good knight, what are you waiting for? Ask them, maybe they will surprise you and say yes.
The upcoming events are the year end dinner on June 27th, Blaine’s Blazin 4th parade on June 28th, and Installation of officers on June 24th. Installation of officers is being held at our council this year. So if you can make it, please do so. There will be no officers meeting on July second. It will be held just prior to the general meeting on July 16th.

Special Announcement
I would like to thank my brother Knights who have supported me the last four years as Grand Knight. It has been a wonderful experience. Not to forget, special thanks to the Ladies Auxiliary who volunteered many hours to council fundraisers. We would be very shorthanded at some activities without the ladies. I intend to remain active in the council and will support the new Grand Knight Ken Resler and his officers.

Prayer Concerns
We pray for Gary Hallman’s mother.
We also pray for the victims of the flooding in Iowa. Also keep all of the volunteers in prayer, including the police that are traveling to Iowa to help with the devastation.
We pray for these and all of our families and friends.
Ladies Auxiliary
Our State Auxiliary is hosting a great trip to the Grotto of the Redemption in West Bend Iowa. We are going on July 19th. We’ll take a bus there and have several pick up points. Ask your relatives and friends to join us. Cost for the day is $48.00. The cost covers the bus, a light breakfast, lunch and entrance fee to the Grotto. Call me if you have questions at 763-241-XXXX.
This is my last article for the guidepost as President. Jean Ackermann is our president for the coming year. I want to thank all the auxiliary members for all their hard work in making the council what it is today.

Notes from the
Financial Secretary
July is not just the start of summer or the new fraternal year; it is also time for the Membership Billing Notices to be sent. Our membership dues have not increased this year; remaining at $24 annual for regular members and $10 for honorary members. The cost of purchasing materials, printing the notices, and of course, postage places an understandable expense on the council budget. If we haven’t heard from you in 30 days, we will need bill you again, incurring the added expense. Please give prompt attention to a speedy payment and help us to keep expenses to a minimum. If you cannot pay your dues, contact the GK to work something out. Each situation will be dealt with separately.
The Grand Knight has asked me to include a questionnaire with this years billing. By responding to the questionnaire you will help us to bring our data base current. Many home phone numbers and some addresses are no longer correct. The Supreme office does give us address updates, but this takes up to six months.
Why are we asking for your wedding anniversary date? On the occasion of a significant wedding anniversary (i.e. 25th, 40, 50th, 55th, etc.) we will provide to the happy couple a nicely framed certificate celebrating marriage, and their special date, signed by the Supreme Knight. There is a four week lead time to receive this certificate, and we would like it in time for your celebration.
We have 21 members celebrating birthdays in July; when you see them, wish them a “Happy Birthday!”

Seminarian Notes
Dear Knights of the Blaine/Coon Rapids Council,
This past year at the seminary was no less than an adventure as in past years. The class load is rigorous; the sense of fellowship among the seminarians continues to strengthen; and the intense prayer life is what continues to sustain us in pursuing our preparations for priestly ministry in the future.
For me personally, the highlight of the year was the opportunity to travel on pilgrimage to New York City while Pope Benedict XVI was visiting the United States in April. There were 12 seminarians selected by lottery to go on the trip. Though it was a short but packed weekend, it was powerful to be in the company of the Holy Father and 25,000 other young people gathered at St. Joseph's Seminary in Yonkers. We were greatly blessed to have arrived early enough to get a close-up view of the stage! When the Holy Father arrived, the whole place erupted with applause and cheering. When he spoke, it seemed as though he was talking to me personally. His quiet demeanor is no less intense than his predecessor, the beloved Pope John Paul II, and his words challenged all the young people and seminarians "to give all as Jesus did for truth and justice." He exhorted the seminarians in particular to "talk heart to heart with Jesus. Reject any temptation to ostentation, careerism, or conceit. Strive for a pattern of life truly marked by charity, chastity and humility, in imitation of Christ, the Eternal Hight Priest, of whom you are to become living icons."
These words spoke deeply into my heart and left quite the impression. It was as
if these words cleared off the dust that can collect upon a seminarian's vision
of priesthood, and gave it is new shimmer and zeal to continue onward towards
what the Lord has called me to become: a living icon of Christ the Hight
Priest. And so the adventure towards the priesthood continues in new and
unexpected ways during these summer months. I am grateful for the support of so
many people, especially the Knights of Columbus, whose deep faith continues to
be an inspiration for so many seminarians. Please know that I hold you
constantly in my prayers that God's love and mercy be remembered upon you and
your loved ones.
in sinu patris,
Steve Villa
