Brother Knights, I hope you all had a happy new year. January is almost gone and February is just around the corner. I do not have a lot to say. The council year has been humming right along. We have two big events coming up shortly. Both are on Super Bowl Sunday weekend. First is the Concertina party. Second is our membership drive to be held on February first at all of the masses.
I have some good news. We have had two new members added to the council. First is a transfer from Chaska council #9141. His name is Gerald W. Korkowski. The second is the son of our insurance agent Wes Ogelsbee. His name is Shawn P. Oglesbee. We hope to have Shawn and another member attend the February major degree in Anoka.
Just a heads up; at the end of this council year I will be stepping down as Grand Knight. I am announcing this now so we can make sure we have a replacement picked out before election time. I have had a lot of fun in this position and I feel that I did the job adequately. Please come to a meeting and let us know if you would like to be Grand Knight.
Please keep in your prayers the following members: Dick Dols and his mother, in her battle with Hemophilia, Jack Lightner who had a Kidney removed due to cancer, Mary Chunard who is still fighting Leukemia, Dale Dawson for his battle with cancer, Frank Dimaggio out of the St. Cloud Council for his problem with kidney stones.
Here we are in a new year. The ladies do not meet in January, so I would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year now.
We start 2004 with the Concertina Party on Saturday January 31st. The ladies run the coat check and this year the proceeds are going to CEAP to assist the food shelves. This is a very worthy cause, so if you can take a shift working the coat check, please call Jan Dols .
I am putting together our volunteer hours for 2003. I did not receive them from some of the ladies, so we will make a good faith estimate. I'm sure it will be less than the ladies worked.
Our February meeting is our baby shower. Originally Mary Hosford was going to hostess this event, but she has had to cancel. We will be having our baby shower at St. Tim's in Room 128. A special thanks to Betty Peter for arranging the room for us. We will meet on February 18th at 6:30 for the potluck, followed by some games and showing our cute baby items. This year we are going to make baskets to donate to women in need at our church. Please bring your items along. If you need any further information, please feel free to contact me.
We will also try to get up to date on the Convention for April at our February gathering. Please come prepared to accept assignments from Jan and Mary. Gladys is hard at work in Arizona on the table decorations.
Please remember to keep our Knights and their families in your prayers. Also, please start thinking of who will be our president for 2004-2005. We will see you on February 18th.
Brother Knights, the fourth degree arm of our order has sent a letter requesting a date to come and speak to our members about becoming a fourth degree member. Would you like to know what the fourth degree is about? Have you ever wondered what the different color capes mean? Have you ever said I would like to join in on the fun they are having? Well, the February general membership meeting is your chance. The fourth degree representative will be at our meeting on the 18th of February. All members that want to hear more, please come to the meeting.
Religious battle golf
The Pope met with the College of Cardinals to discuss a proposal from Shimon Peres, the former leader of Israel. "Your holiness," said one of the Cardinals, "Mr. Peres wants to determine whether Jews or Catholics are superior, by challenging you to a golf match." The Pope was greatly disturbed, as he had never held a golf club in his life.
"Not to worry," said the Cardinal, "we'll call America and talk to Jack Nicklaus. We'll make him a Cardinal, he can play Shimon Peres... We can't lose!" Everyone agreed it was a good idea. The call was made and, of course, Jack was honored and agreed to play.
The day after the match, Nicklaus reported to the Vatican to inform the Pope of his success in the match. "I came in second, your Holiness," said Nicklaus.
"Second?!!" exclaimed the surprised Pope. "You came in second to Shimon Peres?!!"
"No," said Nicklaus, "second to Rabbi Woods."
HELP!! Lent is just around the corner and our first fish fry will be February 20th. This year we will need more help. As always, this is a big deal for our council. So if you are able to help, we can sure find a spot for you. We sure do appreciate it. There are many duties that can be met with a little help. Thank you and God Bless.
