Grand Knights Message

Well, December is almost gone and the New Year is just around the corner. I hope you are all well and preparing for the holiday. I find myself listening harder these days to the sermons at church and wondering how does it apply to me. This last weekend reminded me that this season is all about the birth of Jesus Christ. Please keep this in mind as you partake in the events of the season. It is so easy to get caught up in the commercialism. Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

We had another successful brunch and the senior citizens Christmas party this last month. Our upcoming events in the New Year are the Second Sunday brunch and Concertina Party in January. Please think about helping at the Concertina Party.

Let me take a moment to talk to you about volunteers and volunteerism. All of the volunteers that help in all events are great. Thank you and keep up the good work. What is a volunteer? The American heritage dictionary says it is "A person who performs or offers to perform a service voluntarily:" I think that describes all of us and we need every one of you. As with any organization there are different ways to do things. We all bring different talents, skills, and ideas to the group. We want to take advantage of all of those talents, skills and ideas if they are appropriate. New ideas are great for new events or how run an event. If you have new ideas or thoughts on how to improve a certain event please be careful on how you present it. Start by approaching the person or persons, that run that event correctly and talk it over with them. If you cannot find that person or persons feel free to bring it up in open council, but be mindful of how you phrase the idea. We do not want to alienate any of our current volunteers. Just remember it takes us all to run this council.

Please keep in your thoughts and prayers all of our families and friends who are in need of our prayers at this time.

Ladies Auxiliary

It's been another busy month. Thank you to all the ladies that have helped the men with the November and December Breakfasts. I know the men appreciate our support. I would also like to thank everyone for coming and helping Ken and I with the Seniors Christmas party. Everyone had a wonderful time. The hot dishes and salads went quickly.

Again this year, the ladies adopted a needy family from St. Tim's. Margo and Delores did a wonderful job doing the shopping. We enjoyed a nice pot luck dinner at Jean Ackermanns home. I also received the tour I was looking forward to. What a beautiful home Jean and Jim have. We had a fun time wrapping the presents for our adopted family. A special thank you to everyone for all their efforts to make a needy families Christmas.

I appreciate everyone's efforts in getting me their volunteer hours. I know paperwork is never fun. If you have not yet turned in your volunteer hours, please call or email me with your hours as soon as possible.

We have 2 more opportunities to assist our men in January. The next breakfast is on January 12. Then there is the Concertina party on the 25th. The ladies will staff the coat check with all proceeds going to Our Lady of Good Council. Please contact Jan Dols at 763-786-6294 to schedule a shift. This will be my first chance to attend the Concertina and I am looking forward to it.

Just a reminder that we will not meet in January. The next meeting is February 19, 2003 at my home. This will be the Birthright shower. Please call me if you need directions. We will start at 6:30. Please bring baby gifts and a dish to share for a potluck.

Also, Mary Hosford has arranged for us to go to the Ronald McDonald house on Saturday February 8 to serve dinner at 5:30. Please call Mary at 763-241-9729 for more details and to sign up to go.

I wish everyone a safe and happy Holiday season.

A Little Christmas Humor
"I want to see something really cheap."

After being away on business for a week before Christmas, Tom thought it would be nice to bring his wife a little gift.

"How about some perfume?" he asked the cosmetics clerk. She showed him a bottle costing $50.

"That's a bit much," said Tom, so she returned with a smaller bottle for $30.

"Thats still quite a bit," Tom groused.

Growing disgusted, the clerk brought out a tiny $15 bottle.

Tom grew agitated, "What I mean," he said, "is I'd like to see something real cheap."

So the clerk handed him a mirror.

Something to Think About

Being wise is not the ability to regurgitate thoughts of others but to form your own no matter how erratic they may seem.

Senior Christmas Party wrap-up

Another year has come and gone and another Sr. Christmas party is over. All in all it went well. I would like to thank all of you that helped that day. We could never do this event without all of your help and support. I would like to especially thank Lorraine Koss for all of her efforts. She ended up deboning the turkeys almost completely by herself. She put on a good meal as usual. The Seventh Avenue singers were a hit again. I look forward to putting on this event again next year. Have a merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

A Reminder

The January membership meeting will be at the Annex. Our meetings start at 7:30 with a lunch after the meeting.

TWENTY FIFTH ON THE TWENTY FIFTH

The first major fundraiser for the year 2003 will be the 25th annual concertina Bowl on January 25th. Many volunteer workers are needed in the kitchen, working the raffle, door guards, and possibly to sell lapel pins to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the concertina bowl. Shift times will be the same as last year. Dick Dols will coordinate the workers. Volunteers, please call Dick. Couples can work together on this event. Thanks.
