GUIDEPOST

Grand Knight's Message

Brother Knights, by the time you read this the summer will be half over but our council year will just be beginning. I hope you all had a fun and safe 4th of July. A lot of things will have happened when you read this. The events are the year-end dinner, Blaine's Blazin 4th of July parade held on the 29th of June, July officer and general council meetings. A good time was had by all at the year-end dinner. A thank you to Al Loerzel for putting the year-end dinner together. I want to thank all the knights and their ladies who showed up to ride the float in Blaine's Blazin 4th parade. This was a great show of support for our council. I hope we can keep this up in the years to come and add some new faces to the group. Sandy and I rode the convertible and got sun baked just like every one else. Thank you to the Boy Scouts for handing out the Tootsie Rolls again. In the July General meeting we presented a $1,800 dollar check to Anoka ARC from the Tootsie Roll drive. Please keep in your prayers Dave Van den Broeke who continues to battle cancer, Lenny Resler who will be undergoing radiation treatments, and for those I may have missed but who still need our support. I would like to try adding an inspirational thought or quote to the guidepost on a monthly basis. I will also try some humor. I need suggestions of either web sites or references to get them from. You can email me your suggestions to kresler@msn.com. Here is my selection for this month.

Something to think about

Do all the good you can,

by all the means you can,

in all the ways you can,

as long as ever you can.

A Little Lysdexic Humor

Did you hear about the dyslexic, agnostic insomniac?

He stayed up all night wondering if there was a dog.

St. Joseph's Festival

August is the wind down of the summer and the start of activities for the council year. First up is the St. Joseph Festival (Lino Lakes) on August 10th and 11th. Our participation will be on Saturday evening, August 10th. The kickoff to the festival starts with mass under the big top, followed by food, drink, kids games, and a dance. Our council has, for ten years, helped with the food part, both in preparation and serving. From 6 to 8 PM, our council will serve about 400 brats, 200 hot dogs, assorted trays of nachos and cheese, corn on the cob, and candy. So, help is needed during this very busy time. Usually we get there about 4:30 and get set up so that we can cook during the mass and be ready for the rush immediately after mass. By 8 PM most can go home or hang around and enjoy the music. There is nothing better than going to mass outside and smelling the brats cooking on one side of the tent while on the other side the sounds of kegs being tapped fill the air. Be part of this great tradition, call me, Marc Peters .
