GUIDEPOST

Grand Knights Message

Greetings Knights and ladies. Congratulations to Tom Lodermeier and Stanley Aukland who were initiated in the 1st degree March 14th at St. John the Baptist church. Welcome to the council. The next major degree membership installation will be April 15. Let’s recruit some new members.  Speaking of St. John’s, they are starting a new council with the blessing of their pastor.

The State Men’s Bowling Tournament held at Maple Lanes had fourteen Knights from our council participating. It was nice to see some of our old timers again. Jorge Slater had a fantastic score of 279 during team events. Special thanks to Dave Lodermeier for organizing the weekend.

The fish fries are now over. For the most part everything went well. The most difficult task was judging how much food to prepare. We had crowds from 176 to 448. Thanks to everyone who shopped, set up tables, prepared food, fried fish, bussed tables, Friday night teardown and the Saturday morning clean up crew. Two people should be recognized, Jean Ackermann who trained the confirmation groups, and Dave Lodermeier who did a lot of prep work.

The 2nd Sunday Breakfast March 11th had around 190 total parishioners and proceeds of $432, which will go into the council charity account. Chairman Ken Resler did a great job opening up early Sunday morning on the first day of daylight savings time.

April brings us warmer weather, the spring steak fry and two more fundraisers. The last breakfast is April 22nd which St. Tim’s wants us to do on Ministry Fair Sunday. The annual Tootsie Roll Drive will be held the next weekend. In closing, have a joyful Holy Week and a Happy Easter.

Yours in Christ,

Dick Dols
Grand Knight

Prayer Concerns

For Nick Horning, son of Pat Horning, who passed away.

For Bob and Darlene Cuddigan’s nephew, who was recently diagnosed with cancer.

For Tom Fluegel’s brother, who has early stages of prostate cancer.

For Phil Yenor, son of Lorin and Delores, who had heart valve replacement.

For Bill Murray, who had a stroke and is in Sister Kenney for rehab as of 3/19.

We pray for these, all our members, and their families.

Ladies Auxiliary

This year our Ladies Auxiliary celebrates our 40th anniversary. The Auxiliary started in 1967. We have one charter member, Betty Peter. We have another member who started a few months later, Roberta Hacker. Our ladies nite out in May will be special. We are inviting the past presidents to attend. There will also be a short program.

April is the month of election of officers. Let’s see if we can have some new officers. In addition, this month we have a steak dinner with our Knights. Our regular meeting will follow.

I made a mistake on the date for the casino trip to St. Croix. The correct date is April 15th. Any questions call Jan or Dolores . Bus leaves St. Tim’s at 12:15 pm and returns about 8:15 pm.

President

 Breakfast

The April breakfast will be on the 22nd at St. Tim’s Hospitality Center. Shifts are 7 to 10:30am and 10:30 to 1:30pm. Please call Donny Hosford  to let him know of your interest to work and the preferred shift. Calls will be also be made.   We will be doing a regular breakfast and proceeds will be going to the council charity fund. St. Tim’s Ministry Fair will be in the Hospitality Center that Sunday, which is the reason for the later date.

Tootsie Roll Campaign

The annual Tootsie Roll Drive will be held April 27, 28 and 29. If there are left over Tootsie Rolls, May 4th and 6th at Wal-Mart Riverdale Crossing will be manned. This year the Knights got the O.K. from St. Tim’s Pastoral Council, to hand out Tootsie Rolls outside of church doors after all masses April 28th and 29th. This would be fifteen minutes after mass, which would be quite easy on the legs. Anyone who has not worked this event before should know that it is easy and fun. Smile and offer everyone a Tootsie Roll, donation or not. All proceeds go to ARC Greater Twin Cities, serving Anoka, Carver, Dakota, Hennepin, Ramsey, Scott and Washington counties.

Call Dick Dols and he will schedule you on your preferred shift.  Ladies and teenagers welcome to help.

Insurance Notes

CAN I STILL CONTRIBUTE TO AN IRA FOR 2006?

QUESTION:  I am wondering if I am still able to make a contribute money to my Knights of Columbus IRA but let it count toward 2006 taxes?  Also, how much can I put in?

ANSWER:

Yes, you may make a 2006 contribution to your IRA until April 17th in 2007.  Normally, this date is April 15th, but due to April 15th falling on a Sunday, and the April 16th holiday, the IRS is extending the deadline.  The maximum amount you are allowed to put in is $4,000 if you are under 50 years old.  This is the same amount that will be allowed in 2007.  The contribution limit for both Traditional and Roth IRA’s will increase again to $5,000 in 2008.  After 2008, the limit will be annually indexed in $500 increments, adjusted for the cost-of-living (COL).

The Economic Growth and Tax Relief Reconciliation Act of January 1, 2002, included major changes to laws governing IRA’s.  This act provides for increases in IRA contribution limits.  If you have reached the age of 50, you may take advantage of the “catch up” provision which allows you to contribute $5,000 instead of $4,000.  In order to qualify, an individual must have reached the age of 50 in the year in which they make the “catch up” contribution.

If you desire to make your contribution, contact your Knights of Columbus agent right away.  He will be happy to assist you to make sure you do not pass your deadline.

Send your questions to kcquestions@catholic.org.  If you would prefer a personal reply, please be sure to provide your contact information.

An Inspirational Prayer -
Five Finger Prayer

by Author Unknown

1. Your thumb is nearest to you.
So begin your prayers by praying for those closest to you. They are the easiest to remember. To pray for our loved ones is, as C. S. Lewis once said, a "sweet duty."
2. The next finger is the pointing finger.
Pray for those who teach, instruct and heal. This includes teachers, doctors, and ministers. They need support and wisdom in pointing others in the right direction. Keep them in your prayers.
3. The next finger is the tallest finger.
It reminds us of our leaders. Pray for the president, leaders in business and industry, and administrators. These people shape our nation and guide public opinion. They need God's guidance.
4. The fourth finger is our ring finger.
Surprising to many is the fact, that this is our weakest finger; as any piano teacher will testify. It should remind us to pray for those who are weak, in trouble or in pain. They need your prayers day and night. You cannot pray too much for them.
5. And lastly comes our little finger; the smallest finger of all.
Which is where we should place ourselves in relation to God and others. As the Bible says, "The least shall be the greatest among you.” Your pinkie should remind you to pray for yourself...By the time you have prayed for the other four groups, your own needs will be put into proper perspective and you will be able to pray for yourself more effectively.
