Grand Knight's Message
Boy, these months are really flying. By the time you read this, we will be into April. The fish fry's are well under way and doing well. There is only one second Sunday brunch left. We have three months left to our year. Speaking of the New Year, I have an announcement. I have decided to go ahead and take Grand Knight position again, if you will all have me. I am in need of a Deputy Grand Knight and a Lecturer. If you are interested, please let me know ASAP. For our district we are still in need of an insurance agent. If you would like to volunteer for this or know of some one who might want this position, call me. I will pass the info onto the DD.
I have been using this space as my soap box to try and coax people into action and explain some of what we do. Well, I would be remiss if I did not follow my own advice. I just want you to know that I have done two things to try and recruit new members. First, I created a questionnaire that asks the person about the event they are at and then asks them if they have thought about being a knight. I put it out at the last fish fry and got one person to fill out both portions. The second thing I did is something that we all talk about, but I am almost sure it is never done. I walked up to men at the fish fry and found if they were a member or not. If they were not, I asked them if they thought about joining. While I only asked 4 or 5 that night, 3 of them visited the table with our literature and picked up a form 100. The point is that I asked. So, if I can do it, so can you.
I know that I sometimes make being a knight sound like a lot of work. Well some of it is work, but not a lot. I would like to point out that we have a lot of fun throughout the year. We have the golf outing in July, the KC Camporee in August, the fishing trip in September, and the year end diner in June. In addition to those events, we have a meal at our general meetings for fellowship. On two of those meetings we have a steak fry that our spouses are invited to attend. So I hope you can see that this is not all work and no play, we have a great time at what we do.
Please keep in your prayers the following people. Father George Kolath. His treatments on his liver cancer are continuing and are having a positive effect. Anita Lorzel who has injured her leg. Finally all of the men and women of our armed services. As I write this they are dealing with the threat in Iraq.
Here we are with spring on the horizon. The Lenten Fish Fries and Bake Sales are the first sign of spring to me. We have 4 more to go. The turnout for working has been wonderful. Let's keep up the great work! The bake sales are the ladies only fundraiser so it is great to see all the items being brought.
Every year we submit our volunteer hours to the state. This year we recorded over 1,500 hours. Thank you to everyone for getting me their hours for 2002. Please make sure you keep track of all hours and activities that you volunteer at. I'm sure we actually did a lot more, but just don't remember at the end of the year.
This month we will nominate officers for next year. We will vote on the 2003 - 2004 officers at the April Meeting. A reminder that the April meeting is a steak fry and that the ladies provide the ice cream.
We have a busy spring and summer schedule coming up. Again this year, the ladies convention is the same weekend as the Tootsie Roll drive. Let's try to make sure that we save some time that weekend to help our knights.
Have a wonderful start to spring and remember to keep our knights and their ladies in your prayers.
